Every Christmas morning from the time I was in high school, my mom made her Christmas Seafood Eggs after we opened gifts. Essentially, they're eggs enriched with milk and cheese and scrambled with crab and shrimp. They were amazing and a treat we all looked forward to.
It made me realize that sharing a special breakfast like this was a ritual worth keeping. Since then, I've collected various recipes through the years and keep adding to them.
These are some of my favorites for a holiday breakfast or brunch ranging from quiche and cinnamon rolls to an eggnog German pancake.
EGGS
Vegetarian Quiche Lorraine with a Hash Browns Crust
Notes: Make the entire quiche ahead of time, including baking it. Cover and refrigerate for up to 2 days. Rewarm in a 350˚F oven.
🌱
Quiche Florentine
Notes: Make the entire quiche ahead of time, including baking it. Cover and refrigerate for up to 2 days. Rewarm in a 350˚F oven.
🌱
Egg Bake with Hash Browns, Butternut Squash, and Cheese
Notes: Make the hash browns and veggies ahead of time and layer in a baking dish. Separately, whisk together the egg mixture. Refrigerate both. When ready to bake this dish, pour the egg mixture into the baking dish and bake.
🌱
Herbed Goat Cheese Souffles
Notes: These fluffy goat cheese soufflés are made with honey, dried lavender, thyme, and Parmesan cheese. Although this is a soufflé that's designed to fall, they're best made the morning you serve them.
BREAKFAST AND BRUNCH BREADS
BEST EVER Fluffy Cinnamon Rolls (yeasted bread)
Notes: These are the best cinnamon rolls I've ever made. And they're the softest, thanks to the tangzhong method of making the dough. They can be made ahead and rewarmed when ready to serve.
🌱
Refrigerator Orange Rolls (yeasted bread)
Notes: My great-grandmother was known for her brunches and she made these orange rolls every single time. Eating one of the them is one of my earliest memories. She allowed for the final rising the morning of the brunch (after the dough had been refrigerated overnight) but you can make them a couple of days ahead and rewarm.
🌱
Blueberry Scone Loaf
Notes: This delicious scone loaf is layered like a pull-apart bread, and filled with streusel and blueberries. It's very make-ahead friendly.
🌱
3-Ingredient Mini Pain au Chocolat
Notes: These flakey and buttery mini-croissants with little chunks of chocolate are incredibly quick and easy to make with frozen puff pastry. These are best fresh from the oven when the chocolate is melt-y.
🌱
Cranberry Pumpkin Bread with Chocolate Chips
Notes: This pumpkin quickbread is loaded with dried cranberries and chocolate chips, and can be made ahead. It fantastic warmed before serving.
PANCAKES
Eggnog Dutch Baby with Cranberry Sauce
Notes: Dutch babies are the drama Queens of the pancake family and these totally rule. They're made with eggnog and warming spices and topped with some cranberry sauce and maple syrup.
I hope some of these Christmas Day breakfast ideas pull you into the kitchen this holiday time.
